What is the Educational School Climate Survey (EDSCLS)?

The Definition: The Educational School Climate Survey (EDSCLS) is a state-supported, research-based tool designed to measure the conditions for learning in our schools. It captures the perceptions of our students, parents/caregivers, and staff regarding the school environment.
Why It Matters: High-quality school climate data is critical for district leadership and school building teams to:
- Understand the day-to-day experiences of our school community.
- Make data-driven decisions regarding school safety, social-emotional learning, and resource allocation.
- Monitor our progress toward our District Strategic Plan goals.
- Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming environment for all Greenburgh students.

2026 Survey Administration Window

Dates: The survey will be open from 5/4/2026 through 5/29/2026
Who Should Participate: Students (Grades 5-12), all parents/guardians, and all district staff (Instructional and Non-instructional).

Note for Students: Students will complete the ED School Climate Survey securely through ClassLink on their district-issued devices during the school day.

Confidentiality & Parent Opt-Out Information

Anonymity: Please note that this survey is entirely confidential and voluntary. Individual responses will not be tracked, shared, or tied to a student's academic record.
Parent Opt-Out: As a parent or guardian, you may ask that your child not participate in this survey. This is called parent opt-out. If you do not wish to have your child participate in this survey, please contact your Building Principal directly before the survey administration window begins on May 11, 2026

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How long does the survey take to complete? The survey is designed to be quick and user-friendly. For most parents, staff, and students, it takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

Is the survey completely anonymous? Yes. The survey is completely confidential and voluntary. We do not ask for your name, and your responses are not tied to your child's student ID or academic record. The data is collected and reported only as aggregated groups (e.g., "75% of parents feel...").

I have more than one child in the Greenburgh Central School District. Do I need to take the survey multiple times? If your children attend different schools within the district, we encourage you to complete a separate survey for each school. Because school climates can vary from building to building, your specific feedback for each location is incredibly valuable. If all your children attend the same school, you only need to complete the survey once.

What kind of questions are on the survey? The EDSCLS asks questions across three main areas of school climate:

Engagement: Cultural and linguistic competence, relationships, and school participation.
Safety: Emotional safety, physical safety, bullying/cyberbullying, and substance abuse.
Environment: Physical environment, instructional environment, physical health, and mental health.

How will the district use this data? Greenburgh CSD uses this data to drive continuous improvement. District leadership and building principals analyze the feedback to identify areas where our schools are excelling and areas that need more support. It directly informs our social-emotional learning (SEL) programs, safety protocols, resource allocation, and building-level improvement plans.

Will the results of the survey be shared with the public? Yes. Transparency is important to us. Once the survey window closes and the data is analyzed, an aggregated summary of the district-wide and school-level results will be shared with the Board of Education and posted on the district website.

How do students take the survey, and can I opt my child out? Students in grades 5–12 will take the survey during regular school hours using their district-issued devices via their Classlink dashboard. Parents have the right to opt their child out of participating. If you wish to do so, please download the Parent Opt-Out Form on this page and return it to your child's Main Office before the survey window begins.
