On Monday, November 4th, students at LFJ enjoyed a special read-aloud of Leo's First Vote by Christina Soontornvat. This engaging picture book introduces young readers to the election process, covering everything from voter registration to waiting in line at the polls, while emphasizing the power of every vote. In the story, Leo’s father teaches him how voting allows citizens to make their voices heard and positively impact their community.
At Lee F. Jackson Elementary School, reading teachers Christine Metrinko and Tara Parker organized a school-wide vote, giving students the chance to choose their favorite pet: dog, cat, or hamster. This fun activity brought the book’s concepts to life, showing students how voting works and why every vote counts! Can you guess which pet won?
