Message from the Superintendent
As part of our ongoing efforts to be responsible to our taxpayers while seeking opportunities to lower our district's carbon footprint, the Greenburgh School’s Finance and Facilities Committee recommended an Energy Performance Contract (EPC) that was presented to the Board of Education and approved at the November 15th meeting. This project will result in annual energy savings of several hundred thousand dollars per year. The district will obtain a rebate from the NYS Energy and Research Authority (NYSERDA). What’s more, district voters will have the opportunity to approve a proposition that will authorize 10% in state aid.
To embark on this project, the district will take a loan that will be in the range of $17 to $21 million. While the exact dollar amounts are still being discussed and calculated, the district anticipates that the per-year energy savings, coupled with the NYSERDA rebate, will offset the cost of this loan.
The EPC will result in several important upgrades to our buildings. These include, but are not limited to: upgrading interior and exterior lights to LED; installing rooftop solar PV and a solar carport at the football field; installing digital control and new energy management systems; reinstating natural gas; improving air handlers, replacing and rebuilding RTU’s and AHU’s, installing new water heaters and boilers in some schools, and installing software and timer controls to District computers and AC units.
In order to maximize these savings, Greenburgh CSD will be asking voters to approve an EPC proposition so that the District can receive 10% in state aid. If the voters do not approve this proposition, the EPC will proceed but with a reduced scope that will be at no cost to the taxpayers. The vote will take place on January 17, 2023. Questions? Estimados Residentes del Distrito,
Como parte de nuestros esfuerzos continuos para ser responsables con nuestros contribuyentes mientras buscamos oportunidades para reducir la huella de carbono de nuestro distrito, el Comité de Finanzas e Instalaciones de las Escuelas de Greenburgh recomendó un Contrato de Rendimiento Energético (EPC) que se presentó a la Junta de Educación y se aprobó en la reunión del 15 de noviembre. Este proyecto resultará en ahorros anuales de energía de varios cientos de miles de dólares por año. El distrito obtendrá un reembolso de la Autoridad de Investigación y Energía del Estado de Nueva York (NYSERDA). Para maximizar estos ahorros, Greenburgh CSD pedirá a los votantes que aprueben una propuesta EPC para que el Distrito pueda recibir el 10% en ayuda estatal. Si los votantes no aprueban esta proposición, el EPC procederá pero con un alcance reducido que no tendrá costo para los contribuyentes. La votación será el 17 de enero de 2023. Preguntas?
